I want to knit socks...I want to knit socks all during February. Maybe even during March. Not just the two pairs that are lanquishing in little project bags on a corner of my counter. I wan to knit Fun Socks. Your favorite socks.
So...I'm having a Yarn-Give-A-Way. Two Skeins of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Yarn in Ysolda Red. Each skein is approximately 215 yards. Enough to make your own pair of socks. And red for Valentine's Day!
How do you enter? Just a leave a comment below and tell me about your favorite (knitted) sock pattern and where I can find it. Leave as many different comments as you like. I will use a random number generator to decide the winner. All entries must be submitted by January 31st at 11:59 pm. I'll announce the winner on February 1st!
I'm looking forward to hearing about your favorite sock patterns!

I like the Knitmore Girls Vanilla Socks which I think you can find on their website.
I like by Plain Vanilla Socks
by Keri McKiernan which can be found here. http://knittygrittythoughts.typepad.com/knitty_gritty_thoughts/2007/06/plain_vanilla_s.html
I love Cookie A's Monkey Socks on Ravelry, as well as her Pomatomus socks, which are on Knitty, but a direct link can be found on Ravelry.
I love these! (free on ravelry)

Monkey by Cookie A. on Knitty is always a good pattern, as is plain old Vanilla socks.
Socks are great projects; you can either go simple or test your skills. For the yarn you are showing above I'd make these http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pom-star-socks or these http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/popsicle.
Charade by Sandra Parks on Ravelry is a quick knit and fun. Hermionie's Everyday Socks is a pattern on my list too....looking for the right yarn.
My new favorite sock pattern of the moment is Maeva from the winter 2011 issue of Knitty. It has gorgeous cables!
I received KnitPicks sock a month kit as a gift a few years ago. I just finished my first sock from them, the Heart Socks. I love it. What kept me form doing it is I could not figure out toe up socks. Now I can and I am now going to make all the patterns.
With this yarn I would knit the Be Mine socks from Melissa Morgan Oakes' book 2-at-a-Time Socks.
Well.. this is the pattern I'm using for my very first pair of socks. It's pretty basic, but I love the socks so far!

My go-to is the vanilla sock pattern in the Yarn Harlot's "Knitting Rules." I also like Monkey Socks though...!
swedish fish socks, but done in the color scheme of the swedish fish mittens on ravelry!
I love this pattern -http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mesmer
By Chloe sparkle, especially in this colour way it looks so beautiful x
anything by Cookie a floats my boat, but I'm most proud of my pair of Milos http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/milo-2
which I made in hot pink. I always smile when I put them on

Here's the deal. I want to love socks. but I do not have any good sock yarn. I have knit up a few pairs of socks, and no matter how small my needles my socks come out too thin....
But as soon as I find a pattern I will let you know!
Then again... That yarn sure is pretty!
:)
Thanks for the giveaway. My first pair of socks were the Spring Forward socks from Knitty. They were a great intro to lace and socks and can be found:

I love some baby cabled rib socks I made for my mom. I think they showed off the yarn great, and they were super stretchy for her. Also the rib is just crossing one stitch so you don't need a cable needle. Super easy to memorize. Only downside is the pattern is in a book... Here are my socks http://www.ravelry.com/projects/kristinaknits/baby-cable-rib and here is the link to the pattern on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-cable-rib The book is Sensational Knitted Socks.
Don't freak out! But I actually don't like to knit socks! I have the worst second sock syndrome of anyone you've ever come into contact with.
However, I've had this pattern in my favorites for a while and someday I WILL knit them!

Mmmm, nummy. Working on my first pair of socks. Loving it! I'm already hooked. Thanks for the giveaway! :)
Favorite sock pattern... it's difficult to choose one, honestly! I think the pattern I've knit most frequently is Cookie A.'s Monkey, but I do knit a lot of plain 2x2 ribbed socks as well - they're fast, mindless, and they're not too heavily patterned for the husband's taste.
It changes all the time, but I think my favourite today is Julia socks - the pattern is available at http://www.familytrunkproject.com/julia/
My favorite sock is Angee from Cookie A's first book.

How sad, i have no favorite sock pattern, i have never tried making a pair of socks. if I win this yarn I will make my very first pair
Gosh, I have a number of favorites! Here's a lesser-known one: Stashbuster Spirals, from the Six Sox knitalong group on yahoo groups. You can find a link to it on my project page on Ravelry (where I'm infiknits, sorry to not link, I'm on my smartphone and it's a pain!). Actually, that knitalong had some fun ones when it started. It continued long past six, I think, but I did not. There were also Fluted Bannisters, which were nice, and Cloverleafs.
I'm a fairly new knitter. I want to make full size socks, but so far I've only made "toe-up mini socks" here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/toe-up-mini-socks-2
It was a fun pattern and gave me confidence to try to make a bigger pair!
forgot to leave my email in my comment, but since I'm here again I'll tell you a sock pattern I WANT to try someday: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/monkey
Total mind melts this morning...still forgot to add my email address LOL brettastar1 (at) windstream {dot} net
I love the touch of roving in this pattern:

I haven't actually tried these socks yet, but they're perfect for your Valentine's day theme!

I think they're adorable and are sitting on my to make list!
Knittyattitude had problems leaving comment here she left me a not on twitter...patons fairisle socks on ravelry (saved under my favorites)
Socks would be a great feat (ha!) for me as I just got the hang of double pointed needles! Have knit for years but managed to avoid the use of the dpn's! Would love to try making them.
This is by far my favorite pattern :)
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jaywalker
They look like they would be really difficult to make, yet they are super simple!
i'm new to socks so I like the basic sock recipe from Vickie Howell and the dorm sock pattern.....socks aren't near scarey as I thought they were! ;)
Wow, I usually knit socks for other people so it would be great to have someone knit a pair for me. I have quite a few socks on my to-do list. And you said it would be ok to submit multiple times, so here it goes ;) http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fa-fa-fa-socks. Fa-fa-Fa socks
and I like the Maeva Sock from Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/maeva-2
Chained Down is a rather nice sock http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chained-down
this is a really generous offer. I'm having a hard time selecting my favorite socks. there are so many nice patterns out there these days. Ann budd's Diagonal Cross Rib Socks are in my queue http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/diagonal-cross-rib-socks
in fact, I've got lots of sock yarn and created my own tag on Ravelry for sockclub which yells me socks that would be great for my own sock club. http://www.ravelry.com/people/knittingbrow/favorites?q=sockclub&view=
